A Cumbrian welcome.........Translation:-
Welcome to the (Travellers Rest) Jerry as locals affectionately call it. Built in the 18th Century, it was once an ale house used mostly by miners from Greenside lead mine before it closed in 1962. It didn't do food or wine then, just ale in big jugs from barrels in the cellar (kitchen now). The "Jerry" gets used now by locals, folks coming from the fells, on days out in the car, on bicycles and others on holidays. Here at the "Traveller's" you will will find a grand selection of good value meals, beers, wine and spirits. So (Clag-stick) find a table, get your coat off, sit down and get refreshed!!!
Hidden amongst the folds of the Lake District landscape are numerous villages, and in the midst of each picturesque traditional community there is a thriving country pub giving focus to village life. This friendly local provides high quality food at reasonable prices. Look out for home-made or regional specialities and daily blackboard specials.
A warm welcome awaits you here at the Travellers Rest. You can sit in either of our two comfortable lounge bars or at one of our tables outside and enjoy the view over Ullswater to Place fell. In the evenings we have entertainment, quizzes and regular sports fixtures during the week, as well as darts facilities. This all contributes to a friendly cosy and warm atmosphere that makes for a very pleasant evening.
We offer a variety of bar meals and grills, why not try our renowned "Travellers Mixed Grill", for the hearty eater or choose from our daily specials board.
We open at 8.00am from which time breakfast is served up to 10.30am. Bar meals and sandwiches are served from 11.00am all day up to 10.00pm. We operate reduced opening hours during the winter, unfortunately accommodation is not available at present.
Well kept Cask, Keg beers and lagers are served alongside a reasonable selection of wines by the glass or bottle. In recent years pubs and inns in the region have been improving facilities for families, making a pub lunch an easy and satisfying option during a day out with the children.
